SUMMARY:Preventing Patient Falls
DESCRIPTION:\n\nNDHA is an approved provider of continuing education by the North Dakota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators.\n\n\n\n\nDate: 8/30/22\n9:00 AM – 11:00 AM Central time\n\n \nRegistration fees:       $175 per NDHA member  |  $225 per non-member\nTARGET AUDIENCE:\nChief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Compliance Officer, Emergency Department Personnel, Joint Commission Coordinator, Medical Records, Quality Improvement personnel, Risk Manager, and Legal Counsel.\nOVERVIEW:\nAs the number one hospital-acquired condition, falls are an important patient safety and risk management issue. This webinar will discuss how to comply with the Joint Commission (TJC) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) hospital Conditions of Participation (CoPs) standards on falls. Falls are one of the most significant challenges for hospitals and other health care facilities. A recent study showed falls cost the health care industry $5 billion in 2020. This webinar will include information on medications that increase the fall rate and the role of a pharmacist in the fall program. Attendance is a must for anyone serving on the falls team and anyone interested in preventing and reducing the number of falls in the hospital setting. All hospitals should have a falls team that receives current information regarding falls.\n \n\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\nAt the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:\n\nExplain that every hospital should have a falls program.\nDescribe that all staff should know how to measure the fall rate and define what constitutes a fall.\nDefine the intrinsic and extrinsic causes of falls.\nRecall that CMS will not pay for falls experienced by Medicare patients if the fall occurs during hospitalization and causes serious injury or death.\nRecite evidenced-based fall assessment tools used in inpatient and outpatient settings.\n\n \nSPEAKER:\nLena Browning is a nurse leader and accreditation specialist with more than 25 years of experience in clinical leadership in acute care settings.
