DESCRIPTION:\n\nNDHA is an approved provider of continuing education by the North Dakota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators.\n\n\n\n\nDate: 8/23/22\n9:00 AM – 11:00 AM Central time\n\n \nRegistration fees:       $175 per NDHA member  |  $225 per non-member\nTARGET AUDIENCE:\nChief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Compliance Officer, Emergency Department Personnel, Joint Commission Coordinator, Medical Records, Quality Improvement personnel, Risk Manager, and Legal Counsel.\nOVERVIEW:\nThis program will discuss the standards from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) hospital Conditions of Participation (CoPs) on safe opioid use, IV medication and blood transfusion. The CMS standards on the care of the patient receiving opioids also apply to critical access hospitals. This webinar will also review the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) opioid guidelines, The Joint Commission (TJC) final pain management guidelines, federal guidelines for opioid programs, the opioid epidemic, required hospital policies, and The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) on acute pain. This program will cover the nursing CoPs as they relate to medication and blood administration, including patient assessment and monitoring, staff education and adverse medication events. This program will also discuss the National Action Plan for ADR prevention related to the opioid recommendations. The CMS worksheet on QAPI regarding the tracking of medication administration errors and adverse drug reactions will be covered. This program will also discuss the ISMP IV Push guidelines for adults.\n \n\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\nAt the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:\n\nRecite that all medications must be administered within three different time frames.\nRecall that CMS has required policies and education requirements on medication administration and safe opioid use.\nDiscuss that CMS has competency requirements when giving IV medications or blood transfusions.\nExplain the opioid prescribing guidelines issued by the CDC.\n\n \nSPEAKER:\nA speaker from Nash Healthcare Consulting will be identified soon.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n
