SUMMARY:Critical Access Hospital Swing Bed Requirements and Changes
DESCRIPTION:\n\nNDHA is an approved provider of continuing education by the North Dakota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators.\n\n\n\n\nDate: 10/25/2022\n9:00 – 11:00 AM Central time\n\n \nRegistration fees:       $225 per NDHA member  |  $275 per non-member\nTARGET AUDIENCE:\nChief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Compliance Officer, Emergency Department Personnel, Joint Commission Coordinator, Medical Records, Quality Improvement personnel, Risk Manager, Legal Counsel.\nOVERVIEW:\nThis webinar will focus on the November 2019 swing bed requirements and changes made by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Many CAHs are not aware of the changes or are still struggling to comply. The swing bed regulation is in Appendix W for Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs), but the interpretive guidelines and survey procedures are under Appendix PP. Due to the fact that there is no crosswalk between the two appendices, itis challenging to determine the interpretive guidelines and survey procedures. This webinar will assist hospitals in understanding how to remain in compliance. Hospitals have seen a significant increase in survey activity by CMS, along with an  increased number of deficiencies. Common deficiencies and how to avoid them will be discussed in this webinar. There will also be a discussion of the 1135 Waivers available to CAHs with swing beds.\n \n\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\nAt the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:\n\nDiscuss that CMS made recent changes to the protocol process.\nRecite that CMS has rewritten the entire section on swing beds.\nDescribe what CMS requires to be in the resident assessment for the care plan.\nRecall the CMS requirements on swing-bed patients’ activities.\n\n \nSPEAKER:\nLena Browning is a nurse leader and accreditation specialist with more than 25 years of experience in clinical leadership in acute care settings.
