This presentation will explore how weight bias lends to poor health outcomes, contributes to health inequities, and intersects with other biases including racism and sexism. What is your role in providing care that is inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible?\n \n\n\n\n\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES:\nAt the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:\n\nDefine areas of harmful stigma often encountered in health care and education.\nDetermine how bias contributes to poor health outcomes and health inequities.\nIdentify what can be done now to provide inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible care.\n\n\nSPEAKERS: \nAlison St. Germain, M.S., RD, LD, Registered Dietitian, St. Germain Nutrition Consulting, Ames\nSt. Germain recently changed positions from an associate professor of clinical practice at Iowa State University in the Food Science Human Nutrition Department to the university’s student wellness registered dietitian and owner of St. Germain Nutrition Consulting. She is a certified intuitive eating counselor, a Health for Every Body facilitator and certified in Craving Change. St. Germain is enthusiastic about teaching health care professionals and students about health care without harmful stigma. She presents regularly about weight bias and oppressive intersections of race and other discrimination and how to provide diverse, equitable, inclusive and accessible care. \n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n
