COVID in the Rear View (or is it?): A Review of the Tumultuous Past for Healthcare Lessons for the Future
Presented by: Jamie Orlikoff
Content: As the U.S. hospital and healthcare system attempts to recover from COVID, we are bombarded by questions and challenges: What will the “new normal” of the post- or perpetual- COVID healthcare landscape look like? What are the implications of the war in Ukraine on U.S. finances and federal willingness to “bail out” hospitals that were economically devastated by COVID? Can our workforce recover? How can rural hospitals survive? This presentation will review the emerging environmental trends and lingering implications of the pandemic on hospitals and health systems, outline and analyze the leadership lessons learned, and present strategies for creating a sustainable new normal for hospitals.

Financial Guide for the Rural Health Care Leaders During COVID & Post COVID
Presented by: Ralph Llewellyn, Eide Bailly, LLP
Content: Released in October 2021, Financial Guide for Rural Health Care Leaders During COVID and Post-COVID was created for use by leaders of critical access hospitals, provider based rural health clinics, and others that assist these providers in managing long term financial performance. This session will provide an overview of the guide, provide guidance regarding the potential and anticipated impact the COVID Public Health Emergency (PHE) has had and will have top financial indicators during and after the PHE. Strategies on how to address the financial indicators will also be addressed.

Moderated by: Mike Miele, Modern Capital and Tim Blasl, NDHA President
Content: In the last 5 years healthcare tenure has decreased at an exponential rate. Put simply, the job has become more demanding. Add COVID to the mix, and executive/physician burnout is a Bonafide problem that deserves more attention. In this panel discussion, industry leaders will provide insight on financially efficient strategies to retain, recruit, and reward executives/physicians; how to navigate the conversation between the board, executives, physicians, and providers; and the psychology of career endurance.

A Path Forward: Thriving in Rural Health Care after COVID-19
Presented by: Benjamin Anderson, Colorado Hospital Association
Content: Tying community engagement to diversity and health equity, Benjamin explores true stories of the amazing resiliency of rural communities amidst the formidable challenges of a pandemic. He will share the lessons learned through many interviews with rural health leaders and patients through the successful development of a post-COVID-19 nationally released toolkit and playbook called “Re-Imagining Leadership: A Pathway for Rural Health to Thrive in a COVID-19 Word” that was created in partnership with the Farley Health Policy Center. His empathetic and informative message will inspire and empower health leaders across the United States to align their efforts into inclusive coordinated strategies, leading to healthier care staff, patients, and communities.
